TGIF: On the Road Again

Well, Vancouver, our summer together is being cut a little short, but it’s been great! I’ve eluded to the fact that I’m going to be travelling for most of the next six weeks, but here are the details on where I’ll be and when:

August 9-17: Victoria
August 19-25: Road Trip to Edmonton
August 26-September 7: Toronto
September 12-15: Road Trip to Portland
September 17-21: New Orleans

So, I’m literally only home for 1 day in the next 30… whew! That’s crazy to think about.

There’s a really good mix of work/play in all of this. Whenever I go home to Victoria, I still work my regular hours, so it’s business as usual there. However, I am taking August 19-25 off for my road trip to Edmonton. My trip to Toronto is for work + my boss’ wedding. Then I’m going to Portland for fun and to New Orleans for FinCon! (Will I see you there!?)

I’m sure by the end of it I’ll be anxious to sleep in my own bed again but, as of right now, I am so, so, so excited to see all my favourite people in these cities and explore the ones that are new to me (Edmonton, Portland, New Orleans). If you have any recommendations of things I should do, places I should see and, especially, places I should eat, I’m all ears! For now, I should get back to packing…

The high of my week was taking the entire weekend off from all writing. I went for a long hike, saw lots of friends, relaxed and slept… it was awesome and so needed.

A blog post I loved was You Get 25,000 Mornings as an Adult by James Clear. First, I’m a dork and loved the calculation at the beginning. But then his list of ways to get the most out of your mornings was full of both mindfulness and productivity hacks. I’m currently trying to figure out what #1 and #8 look like for me.

The best money I spent was $5.34 on a tub of coffee-flavoured Greek yogurt. How ridiculous does that sound!? But I swear it’s the best discovery I’ve made in weeks!

My plans this weekend include packing tonight, catching an early morning ferry to Victoria tomorrow, then just spending time with family and friends. See you soon! xo

How was your week, friends? What are you up to this weekend?

  • What a whirlwind! You’ll have a great time! You have just enough time at home to unpack, do laundry and pack again!
That coffee greek yogurt sounds fantastic.
As for me, I have a long overdue dinner planned with my BFF and will hopefully be purchasing and consuming some coffee-flavored greek yogurt!
    Enjoy your trips!

    • Haha, pretty much! And I managed to squeeze a haircut appointment in there too. Enjoy dinner with your friend!

  • “So, I’m literally only home for 1 day in the next 30…”

So Cait, who’se going to come to your place and do the dusting, water the plants, etc. while you are galavanting out and about? :-) Enjoy yourself, buddy!

As for moi, well our daughter (and her family) head off this weekend for a 10 day vacation trip to PEI and – oh joy! – we get to doggy sit her pooch! Should be fun…

  • That is a jam packed travel schedule! It does wonders to not work for a couple days in a row so I’m glad you were able to do that last week=-end.
Stay healthy with the air travel as I tend to get sick from being on planes often. My mom arrives today so I am excited about that. No set plans this week-end so we’ll go with the flow.

    • Yea, I’m going to be extra conscious of what I put into my body these next 6 weeks. Have to make a lot of healthy choices and pack some good snacks. Enjoy the time with your mom :)

  • Geez Louise… you don’t sit still, do ya?! Hmm, I am going to have to look for coffee Greek yogurt – it’s my favourite flavour of ice cream, so I can imagine I’ll love every second of it. Assuming it’s good Greek yogurt (aka, thick as hell).

  • You’ll be in town for the Fringe Festival!

I’d say check out West Edmonton Mall here but with your no buying stuff ban probably pass on that temptation. There’s always the Art Gallery of Alberta which is downtown. There’s a bunch of different exhibitions going on. Also the river valley is worth exploring.

Seriously worth checking out! Are you doing a meet up while you’re here in Edmonton?

    • I did actually include money in my budget to buy a few things on my “approved shopping list” so I can take advantage of the lower taxes in AB, so we may go to the mall.

What’s the River Valley? Looks like a nice walk, from what I can see on Google! And no, I won’t be – there wasn’t enough interest and I really want to spend quality time with my family.

  • Wow, how are you even going to keep up with all that travelling. Can’t believe it’s almost a year since I was in Toronto! In fact if your trip this year was last year we’d have been able to meet up. Summer 2015 right?! Have an amazing time xx

    • Hmm, well I always make time to write… I’d say I’m more concerned about just eating well and taking care of myself. But I think it’ll be a good test for Summer 2015. ;)

    • Yea, I’m not super worried about the whole donut thing. But ice cream – I’m all over that! Thanks, Steve!

  • I know I’ll see you at FinCon, but we should see each other in PDX as well! Hmm, I know you can’t do coffee (or can you? I’ll buy!), but maybe we can grab lunch?

    • Yes, please! And I’m allowed coffee while travelling. I’ll be in need of a good latte. :)

  • Ooo.. Edmonton! If there is anything you need to buy, I suggest buy it there because the sales tax there is only 5% there instead of the 12% we pay here.

Or have a few drinks… their liquor tax is wayyyy lower than BC’s! :D

    • Yep, that’s the plan! I basically wrote that exact sentence in my monthly budget post, hehe.

And I don’t drink, but that’s good to know.

    • Thanks, Sara! Same to you. Pack light as it’s going to be HOT while you’re here. (Supposed to be 35C on Monday.)

  • Last weekend before holidays are over. Dog has to go to the vet. Walk in the dog park. Family over for lunch Sunday. hopefully some beach time and a fire (we live in the country by a lake).

    Safe travels.

  • You MUST try the Portland City Grille and get the kung pao calamari. It’s Now I want some.

  • Found the greek yogurt! yummy!!

This week was super, only had to work 3 days :)

It was bf’s b-day on Thursday so we celebrated with friends and I made Apple Crisp (the only thing he wanted for his b-day haha).

I had yesterday off which we spent with friends and now I am back to being busy. Working right now, then two friends’ kid’s b-day parties today. Tomorrow I work again then going to the Jays game. And it is bf’s weekend to work days so I’m just doing my own thing… I’ll have dinners with him but he doesn’t get home till 8pm!

You are going to have the best time on all those trips! Oh yea I booked a trip to Vegas this week :)

Anyway, have a great weekend, looking forward to seeing you in September!

    • “Back to being busy” haha. I would expect no less, Dayle. However, even though your schedule is always jam-packed, I have to say that it seems like you’re always doing things you love. It’s inspiring.

When are you going to Vegas!?

      • November!

        It’s for my girlfriend’s bachelorette… she’s getting married New Year’s Eve, and I’m her MOH :)
