TGIF: Whistler, We’re Coming for You!

Do you ever feel like, as soon as you have an epiphany, everything you start to see, read or hear about is related to it? That’s what this week has felt like for me. On Tuesday, I had this sudden realization that so many of the things I’ve been doing lately are leading me in the opposite direction I want my life to go in… and since then, my mind has been racing. But we can talk more about this on Monday.

I’ve hustled to cross a number of things off my to-do list this week, so at 5pm today I can put my laptop away and just spend time with my girlfriends. Have I mentioned that I’ve never been to Whistler? Growing up on Vancouver Island, you go to Mount Washington instead. Needless to say, this is the one weekend of the summer I’ve been looking forward to the most. I’m so excited to explore the area a bit and hopefully tackle one of these hiking trails. And then dive into the pool and hot tub at our hotel after, haha. Happy Friday, friends!

There was no low of my week.

The high of my week will start the minute I pick up my girlfriends from the ferry!

A blog post I loved was Searching for Happiness. “The mind is tricky, though. Regardless of how many times you achieve, acquire, obtain, or attain something, it will always have something new and something more that you need to achieve, acquire, obtain, or attain.” Give it a read.

The best money I spent was $65.92 on groceries. (It’s all I’ve spent, since payday on Monday.)

My plans this weekend include picking up my girlfriends from the ferry, hanging out with them + another girlfriend who just moved back to BC after being in Winnipeg for two years, then going to Whistler tomorrow morning and just having some fun!

How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?

  • Funny, I had a couple of epiphanies this week too. One was so obvious, I felt kind of stupid for not thinking of it weeks ago. I’m lucky in that my job doesn’t involve having to check my email every day. I know some people who never check their work email. But for some reason, I obsessively check it multiple times per day, even on my days off. My boss has been pretty hard on me lately and has been sending me some pretty rude emails. Obviously, they’re annoying and I get mad. But I keep on checking them every day anyway. My epiphany? I don’t really need to check my work email at all, so I’m not going to! lol My new rule is that I check it once per week only and that must happen while I’m actually at work. Voila… no more annoyances and I get to spend my days off completely away from work. Epiphanies are funny things. I often wonder what circumstances exist for us to have these sudden realisations about what we need to do.

Have fun in Whistler. It’s so beautiful up there! And so much fun.

    • Hey, if you don’t need to check your email then you definitely shouldn’t! Working remotely, it took a long time for me to realize that it was ok to work offline (not always have Gmail/chat open), but I get sooo much more writing/editing done when I do. So, check it only as often as you need to. :)

  • My week was nice and short because it was only 3 days at work! This upcoming weekend will likely just be hunkered down inside since we’re getting a good tail-end of the hurricane coming up the eastern coast. It will give me a chance to get caught up on a few things I’ve been slacking on.

I love Whistler, though I’ve only been there in the wintertime. Enjoy!

    • Yikes! I saw some pics of what was about to hit New York. Will it just come to you as some wind/rain?

  • My week was great! I had 3 days off to start it so I’m not complaining.

The best money I spent was $15 on a cherry pitter. I normally would not buy a one use gadget but seeing as I’ve been eating cherries like they’re going to not exist I bought one. And I love it. Easy to use and no more having to spit out pits!

My weekend plans are work. Yep exciting stuff but I do get Monday and Tuesday off. So there is that.

    • Yea, I guess I forgot to mention I had a 4-day weekend too, haha. It was really nice! Now, can I be honest and say I had to Google what a cherry pitter looked like? I didn’t even know those existed!

  • I’m seriously enjoying the morning off today. 4th of July week is never the most productive with so many people on vacation. We cleaned the house last weekend, so I’m looking forward to getting some other things done. My only morning goal for today is to go for a jog :)

  • I’m looking forward to your post on Monday. I hope you have a good weekend with your girlfriends.

My week was good. Still settling in at the new job and in to my new office. I’ve had a very low spend week as I realized there are only four more paychecks until my vacation. I’m trying very much to stay on track.

My low point of the week was yesterday. I received one of those credit card promotional letters in the mail. I actually went to the website and started entering my information. Luckily I talked myself out of it. I’ve been having trouble managing the one card I currently have. I certainly don’t need a second.

Plans for the weekend are just to relax at home, do some cleaning, batch cook and bake for the week and watch some Netflix. Not very exciting I know. But the humidity has been killer here this week and my apartment is cool.

    • NICE JOB on closing the credit card application before submitting it! Seriously, I know I don’t actually know you but I’m so proud of you, because I KNOW how easy it is to enter information and just submit those kinds of things.

I think your weekend sounds really nice! I did that on Tuesday (Canada Day) and it was really relaxing. Enjoy, Trista. :)

      • Thanks Cait. I seriously almost reached out to you or Alicia to talk me out of it. But luckily I did it myself. I know I don’t actually know you guys but you are my support system when it comes to this stuff. I always seem to comment like I’ve known you for years. lol

And it looks like things are looking up this weekend. It seems I have plans tomorrow afternoon. Perhaps a drink on a deck downtown.

  • My husband and I just got finished finalizing our Europe trip this fall. So we are very excited to be planning and searching for all of the different things to go there.
