TGIF: So Long, Blue Skies. Hello, Toronto!

cabarete toronto

I can’t even begin to describe how perfect that week in Cabarete was. Some days, we were up at 7am for an early morning surf session or yoga class, followed by smoothies and breakfast on the beach. Other days, we slept in until 9am (or noon) and lazed by the pool. We also went horseback riding one day, danced until 2:30am a few nights, ate some good food and met some incredible people. I didn’t realize how much I needed a vacation (even if it was a workcation), until it was over…

Before boarding my flight to Toronto yesterday, I realized it has been exactly one year since I moved back to BC! On March 27, 2013, I said “so long” to the big city, not knowing exactly when I’d be back. Since then, I’ve actually been to Toronto five times (including this trip) for work. I’ve also moved three more times (which sucked). But one year later, I can say that moving back to BC was the best decision I could’ve made for myself. I love my new life in Port Moody and I really love working remotely; it’s not for everyone, but it’s helped me get closer to living my perfect day

The low of my week was leaving Cabarete…

…but then the high of my week was flying to Toronto! I’m so excited to stay and catch up with Roomie, see some friends, have breakfast with ING and work in the office for a week.

A blog post I loved was The Pointlessness of Unplugging, mostly because of the closing statements: “If it takes unplugging to learn how better to live plugged in, so be it. But let’s not mistake such experiments in asceticism for a sustainable way of life. For most of us, the modern world is full of gadgets and electronics, and we’d do better to reflect on how we can live there than to pretend we can live elsewhere.”

The best money I spent was $20 on Monday morning’s surfboard rental, smoothie and iced coffee.

My plans this weekend include having dinner with the entire RateHub.ca team tonight, having brunch with a friend tomorrow and then going out for dinner with Jess tomorrow night. I actually have no plans on Sunday… does anyone want to meet for coffee!?

How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?

  • Holy Cow, you always have so much on the go! Honestly, even though Toronto doesn’t look as beautifully blue as DR, TO has much less snow than NS! We got pounded with snow again Wednesday and yesterday so the snow mountains are back. Ugh.

My weekend includes driving 2 hours to have lunch with a friend who is in the province. If we both drive about 2 hours we will meet in the middle. What a good friend :) I haven’t seen her in about five months, and probably won’t be seeing her any time soon because she actually lives in AB now.

Aside from that, I just need to get my food prepping under way again. And watch lots of Suits. I don’t know if you watch that show, but I find it so witty. I love the legal secretary (Donna)… she steals every scene she is in, and her timing is hilarious.

    • Yea, it’s nice that the snow is melting here! But like Rob said in his comment below, the streets are disgusssting… just filled with cigarettes, garbage and dog poo. So it’s still pretty nasty out there, just in a different way, lol.

Enjoy lunch with your friend! And I’ll have to check out Suits, now that I’m done a couple other shows.

  • Oh, I cannot wait until April 15th when its my turn to be in the Domincan! If I didn’t live in Mississauga and its such a complete hassle to get downtown on the weekends (my GO train doesn’t run) I would take you up on your coffee offer. If you’re ever free on a weeknight in Toronto, let me know as I still work downtown. Hope you have a nice time here (and just in time for some actual spring weather!) :)

    • Which city are you going to? I can’t remember if it was Cabarete or another. If it’s Cabarete, send me an email and I’ll give you some reco’s of things to do, places to eat, etc.!

And this week already looks a little nuts, but next time, let’s please plan for coffee! I’d love to meet up finally. :)

  • Happy to see that you enjoyed a great “workation”, Cait (I’m a tad envious) :-)

Since you’re back in Toronto, you know that the weather has “finally” (touch wood!) warmed up a tad here and the snow is melting – exposing all the gar-bage and crappola underneath it – yuck! Such is spring, eh? Enjoy yourself while you’re in town.

For the past day and half I was over at our daughter’s house, minding her kids and their pooch while she was out of town on business and her hubby was down south (where you just were) in the Dominican Republic, playing golf for the next 4 days (the lucky bum!) :-)

This weekend will be busy at our house – our son and his wife, both celebrating their b/days, will be over with their kids, along with our daughter and her kids – altogether 5 little rug rats to get sugar-hypered-up on rich b/day cake! :-)

    • You’re not kidding about what’s underneath all the snow… the streets are looking pretty horrid right now! But I’m still enjoying the “warmer” temps (while missing the sun and heat!).

Sounds like a fun weekend! Now I’m craving a piece of cake, haha. Enjoy!
