TGIF: Happy Thanksgiving!

Today’s TGIF is a serious TGIF: thank goodness it’s Friday! It’s been a long/productive week so far, and I still need to cross a bunch of things off my list today, but then it’s time to relax – for three whole days! This Monday is Thanksgiving in Canada, so I imagine many of you will be spending time with your families. We actually celebrated Thanksgiving last weekend, knowing Dad would be away for the holiday. Then I stayed for a couple extra days, to make sure Baby Sis (seen here!) came out of her surgery ok. She had bone grafted from her hip and put into her wrist, which is now in a cast for 6 months. (Gross, eh? Still hungry for that turkey leg?)

Every time I go home to Victoria, I realize how lucky I am to have the family I do. We’re a crazy bunch – speaking in our own language at times, always making weird noises and faces, and laughing a lot – but we’re also a team. We tell each other everything (seriously, no topic of conversation is off limits in our house), offer a helping hand whenever it’s needed and push each another to do what’s best in any given situation. In general, we’re always looking out for one another. I know Baby Sis will experience this as she recovers and starts physio, just as I’ve experienced it with everything from my career to these past few moves.

Anyway, since I won’t be seeing my family, this weekend I’m going to try to take some time out for myself. Even though this particular week felt long, so many others feel short and time seems to be flying by as a result. I keep putting off simple things I enjoy, like writing snail mail and finding new recipes to try, because I’m “too busy”. This weekend, I’m just going to enjoy my new place and hopefully see some friends. If I find time to do some of those things I keep putting off, great! If not, that’s ok too. I’m just grateful to have a few days off, so I can unwind and recharge.

The low of my week was… nothing. Well, maybe just that I didn’t sleep much!

The high of my week was driving Baby Sis home from the hospital. (Playing with her boyfriend’s dog, Rocky, was fun too.)

A blog post I loved was My Life Altering Two-For-One Deal. This week, Cat announced that she is pregnant… with TWINS! I’m so happy for her and can’t wait to see how this shapes her life, blog, etc.

The best money I spent was $133.50 to go to Victoria and back.

My plans this weekend include… nothing. : )

How was your week? What are you thankful for this year?

    • I don’t really like pumpkin pie *hides* but I was happy to eat a big slice of apple pie last weekend! Dang, now I’m craving more… Happy Thanksgiving!

  • My week has been kind of crazy too. Settling into the new job has been super enjoyable – but also very busy. I’m looking forward to some down time this weekend. I plan on reading up on all of the blog posts I missed this week (I totally missed that Cat is preggers!), and brainstorming ways to make MAL better.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! I have a Canadian friend having a big celebration at her house this Sunday so I can enjoy Thanksgiving twice this year. Glad you got to spend time with your family and sis, and I love uneventful weeks. You needed one of those!

  • I’m going back to the island this weekend for Thanksgiving. Joy for crazy busy long ferry lineups! :P Glad to hear baby sis is recovering well. Happy Thanksgiving dear Cait! xo

  • Happy Thanksgiving from me too, Cait. Sure hope that your sis is back up on her feet real soon, good as new! My week so far has gone well but today was a bit of a zoo, what with getting my new furnace installed. I “babysat” the hard working furnace techie from 10 am until just a few minutes ago (8 PM). I wouldn’t want his job! :-)

Anyway, just relax as planned, maybe gobble up some turkey (sorry, just had to say that) and enjoy your weekend.

    • 10 hours – yikes! I bet it feels good to have that over and done with now though. (Especially because you weren’t the one doing the hard work, haha.)

I enrolled in the Canadian Securities Course today, so I don’t think I’ll be relaxing mentally… but I can read on the couch, and that’s ok too. :)

      Happy Thanksgiving, Rob!

  • Have a great thanksgiving! So happy you have a wonderful family. My week was pretty good and I’m really thankful for blogging, my love, friends and family!

  • Happy Thanksgiving! It’s my favorite holiday. We spend it with friends and call it Friendsgiving. It’s always so much fun! I can’t wait for our Thanksgiving at the end of November – seems so far away…
