TGIF: Forget You, Flu!

Things were quiet over here this week, eh? I’m sorry about that. I had a couple of posts planned, but caught a nasty cold/flu bug that basically took over my life – a.k.a. I listened to my body and rested (a lot). Unfortunately, that means this week’s TGIF won’t be very exciting… but I did sneak in some reading, so am sharing not one but two posts that I loved!

The low of my week was obviously getting a cold that quickly turned into the flu. Body aches, cold chills, hot sweats, a cough and total exhaustion… I haven’t been this sick in a very long time.

The high of my week was finally meeting two people I’ve been chatting with for the past month or so, and talking about a project we’ll be working on together this fall/winter. I’m so excited to see where it goes!

A blog post I loved was Jordann’s announcement of her new job; it reminded me so much of what I went through last August/September, when I quit my job in the public service and joined I also loved Wendy’s explanation of how she paid off $12,000 of credit card debt in just 9 months. Way to go, girls!

The best money I spent was $37.44 on Tylenol Cold & Flu, a nasal spray, lemon ginger tea, honey, lozenges and soup. I think $18.99 for the Tylenol was the best, but it all seems to be helping a bit.

My plans this weekend include hanging out with some personal finance geeks. (Or just hanging out near them and praying I don’t get anyone else sick.)

Your turn! How was your week? What are you up to this weekend?

  • Sorry to read that lately you’ve been having a cold in the node, Cait. :-)
Hope you’re feeling better real soon, my friend.

Welp, after having spent two busy hot summer months (and having dropped 25 lbs of tender baby fat – lol) all my outside heavy lifting stone-improvement house projects are now completed and the outside front and back surroundings look great.

Next week – the inside fall/winter projects commence: painting the entire house.
    ‘Tis a hobby! :-)

  • I had a day off from work on Monday with the flu and spent the day in bed reading magazines. My highlight was realising I only have five more weeks of work before my Bf and I move from Melbourne to Toronto for 12 months!!

      • We should meet up for a coffee sometime! I hope that doesn’t sound creepy coming from a stranger but I’ve read your whole blog (just haven’t commented until now) so I feel like I know you lol. No pressure though :) I think it’s so nice how you take the time to respond to everyone’s comments, a lot of bloggers don’t.

        • Not at all, I love meeting readers! If you comment, you’re a friend. I’ll definitely keep you posted of upcoming trips. :)

  • Sorry to hear you had the flu – hope you’re feeling a bit better now? My week was really busy – it’s my little girl’s birthday party tomorrow so we’ve been planning for that. Looking forward to chilling out on Sunday!

  • Hope you are feeling better.
I started my week with a massage after work and meeting with a health coach. Not sure if I am going to sign up with the HC, as she costs $1200 for 6 months of coaching. It’s $75 a session and you meet twice a month. It did get me thinking about my health more, but not sure what to do next. I attended my weekly GRE prep class and even went to an optional workshop. To round out the week I decided to watch World War Z last night (awesome movie). Tonight I am volunteering at a festival.

    • That’s a tough call. I guess it depends on what you want to get out of hiring a health coach. I don’t think it’s worth spending money on something if you don’t know what your goal is at the end. Anyway, sounds like you had a nice week!

  • Hope you’re feeling better soon! :) Missed your posts. Strangely, I’ll be cooking a turkey this weekend for my parents. No, we don’t celebrate a strange Thanksgiving that no one else does…or maybe we do? LOL! They do the snowbirds thing and are gone six months of the year and will be leaving soon. So turkey, pumpkin pie and Thanksgiving in general comes early in our household.
    Take care of yourself!

    • Aww, we’re doing Thanksgiving early too! October 6th, I believe, because my dad will be away for it this year. Enjoy. :)

  • Looks like we’re in the ‘season’ for these bugs. I also caught a cold one week ago and it was a pretty nasty one. The problem was the my medication is limited (I’m pregnant, so it’s not wise to take what I’d usually take), so I had to battle with it and only use something my doctor green lighted me to use. Fortunately the baby is OK and I am finally recovering.

Get well soon, we’re looking forward to more posts ;)

    • Oh no! I can’t imagine what it’ll be like to be pregnant (one day). It’ll be hard not being able to take allergy pills (I have terrible hay fever). Happy to hear you’re feeling better :)

  • I hope you are feeling much better now, Cait! I had a flu back in January and spent 7 days in bed with really high temperature. It was awful and I never want to go through that again!

My week has been okay, I moved this weekend and I’m now at my sister’s. Will be looking at places to move into soon and I’m pretty excited! :P

    • It’s nice that you’re with your sister now, but it’ll be even better when you can finally move into your own place. Hope you had a nice weekend!

  • Hi Cait! I’m glad you are on the mend. Seems like everyone has this ‘bug’ going around. I was wondering if you have started your finance course you spoke of previously.. I too am interested in this and to follow your progress and thoughts.

    • I have not, but I’m going to in October! I will absolutely write some posts on what I learn, how I can use it, etc.
