TGIF: Thoughts for the Weekend

Guess what I did last weekend / all this week? Got some sleep! (Hooray!) I have still had a few restless nights of tossing and turning but, for the most part, I’m back to getting 7-8 hours of sleep each night and waking up feeling more like a human than a zombie. It’s incredible what a little extra shut-eye can do for a person; I’m smiling more, eating better, and overall just feeling good.

Unfortunately, what still hasn’t changed is how much is on my mind. The one downside of no longer writing this blog anonymously is the fact that I don’t feel like I can share anything and everything that is happening in my life. I’m dreaming up big dreams, having second thoughts, and doing things I would love to share… but I can’t. At least not yet. Hopefully that will change soon.

So, why am I telling you all this? Because I feel like I have been seriously neglecting this blog. I know I’m still writing once/week, tracking my spending, etc. but I hate that I can’t share all of the big ideas that are rolling around in my brain. Or the reasons I can’t sleep. And it’s all stopping me from being able to write the posts I normally do. Heck, I can barely finish a draft about how my Kobo is saving my budget…

Anyway, this week’s been busy but good: I was interviewed by Bryan Borzykowski for a story he’s writing for the Toronto Star, I had a follow-up chat about an interview I did for the Star back in the fall, and I spent a couple hours with two lovely ladies from The Globe and Mail, shooting a video about my blog and some of the ways I save money. And then they followed me as I grocery shopped! Fun stuff.

And now… well, I actually don’t have any plans this weekend, other than to get a ton of writing done. I’ve promised a few posts to someone that I would like to deliver by the end of this month, and I’d love to get past this case of writer’s block I’m dealing with.

Other goals for this weekend:

  • Finish reading Bossypants
  • Finish the second season of Sons of Anarchy
  • Meal plan / grocery shop for next week

What do you have planned for this weekend?

  • “Bossypants” is a great book! My plan this weekend is to take it slooowwww. I have had busy evenings this week and will next week, as well, so I am going to take this weekend and read, go for a hike with the boyfriend, make some soap, and meet a new house-sitting client! Very much looking forward to the amount of free time that is left!

    • I’m only 40 pages in and I cannot stop laughing out loud. Hilarious!

Sounds like a great weekend, Brittany. Enjoy it!

  • Happy to see that you are slowly getting more sleep, although you mention that you still have reasons for not getting all the sleep that you would wish. I understand how you have valid reasons for not sharing these with your blog readers, along with other personal things, at the moment. I would therefore suggest that you still write all these things down – but keep them private to yourself. The simple act of just writing these things down may help to get them off your mind a bit and help you to relax more.

As to my weekend plans – go out to do the grocery shopping. I have more time now that I’m retired and my wife says that I always seem to be able buy more for less $$ than she ever could ! :-)

After that I think that I’ll just relax inside (out of the cold) all weekend, reading some freebie stuff on my Kindle ereader.

    Enjoy your weekend.

    • Ugh, definitely stay out of the cold! I am going to quite happily stay inside for as much of the weekend as possible, to avoid it. I’m happy to see warmer temperatures are in next week’s forecast. Have a great weekend, Rob!

  • You going to post the video once it’s aired? I love that book btw! Tina is my girl crush! I told a few people about my blog too, one being a friend and producer I worked with and we had a falling out. Now I can’t write what I really want to write about it.

    • I will definitely link to it! I hope friends down south can see it… :S

It’s tough finding a balance, hey? My problem is that I love sharing my thoughts with everyone, because I so sincerely appreciate people’s comments and advice! Soon, soon…

  • Would writing all those things on your mind down in a private journal help (if you don’t’ already)? I know there are a few very ranting posts in my drafts folder that should never see the light of day, but significantly helped me form my thoughts into something more suitable for the Internet public.

Also, SoA Season 2 finale is one of my favourite episodes of TV ever. :)

    • Ooo, I’m only 3 episodes away from the finale! *Goes to watch*

And yes, I have been writing a bit. And talking to a few people. It definitely helps… thanks, Amanda!

  • I would suggest still writing your ideas down, you can always write a blog post and never publish it. It would get your thoughts out of your head and it would be there waiting for you if you decided to publish it later.

    Take care of yourself.

  • *ahem* You still owe me an email…I’ve been watching my inbox every day.

J has just started Sons of Anarchy and he is OBSESSED. I think he’s only on season 1, episode 5. It doesn’t look like my type of show. Although I did get him watching Downton Abbey after the first season, so maybe it’s my turn to watch something I don’t think I’ll like. Now I can’t watch Downton without him or he’ll throw a fit. Hah.

This weekend – dinner tonight with some friends at an English pub, and then my cousin comes to PDX to visit Saturday through Tuesday. She’s never been out to visit so we’re super excited to show her the city. Lots of restaurants in the near future…

    • *Hides head in shame* It’s in your inbox, now!

If I was in Portland, I’d watch Sons of Anarchy with J, haha. I have no one to watch it with here, either! And I am definitely obsessed. You should give it another shot.

Have an amazing weekend with your cousin! And reply when you can :)

  • I think you’re doing a great job of balancing being “all out” and keeping things to yourself, especially since finance and money are such personal parts of our lives. I struggle with feeling like I share too much, too. It’s probably why I don’t blog as often as others would like me to. Do what feels right to you. People will read whatever you put out there because it’s good, interesting content!

    • Thanks, Meg! The trouble is I actually really like sharing my thoughts with everyone here… but I’m just not quite ready to. Soon, though. Until then… more weekly spending reports, haha.
