April Budget & Goals

April Budget & Goals

This month is going to pull me out of my routine, in more ways than one. On Tuesday, I’m moving into a beautiful home on the waterfront for a month. The upside: living on the water with a cute dog, in a house that is maintained by a gardener and housekeeper. The downside: it’s going to add an hour-long commute to my day (30 minutes each way), making it impossible to hit the gym before work.

On the bright side, I’ve researched and found that the closest gym is not only cheaper but is almost brand new! My plan for now is to continue going on both Saturdays and Sundays, while trying to squeeze in at least one evening workout during the week. I’m also going to bring my yoga mat and lay it out in the room with the best view of the ocean. Ok, so there are actually a few bright sides to this deal.

Oh, and I’m getting paid. So that’ll help this month’s budget! Something I didn’t look at last month is that, despite getting three paycheques, most of my automatic withdrawals only occurred twice. This month, my car loan payment and all my automatic savings are coming out three times. If I wasn’t getting paid to housesit, this would be a pretty tight month. But I think I’ll be able to put about 30% of my income on debt and 10% into savings. Sounds ok to me.

Goals for this month:

  • Continue counting calories on Lose It!
  • Workout 4x per week
  • Put $5 into a jar, whenever I workout
  • Finally buy myself a new pair of running shoes
  • Read Mockingjay by Susanne Collins

What do you have planned for this month? :)

  • I really need to start monthly goals. It’s such a great idea. I’ll have to scratch some down and put them where I can see them. Here are some ideas for myself:

–Workout 3x/week (last month I worked out 0x – shameful)
–Spring clean the apartment (it so needs it)
–Keep a closer eye on the budget this month (last month I didn’t bother keeping track of anything until the end of the month, which is a surefire way to blow it)
–Limit myself to 2 glasses of wine, no more than 2 times per week. I think this is doable, although my birthday is in 2 weeks, so it might be a little tough :]

    • Good ones! Maybe save a week’s worth of wine for your birthday ;)

And you’re right to put them in a place you’ll see them. I wrote mine on a bunch of post-its and put them on the front of my fridge. Stopped me from placing many pizza orders!

    • I’m going to try to soak up every minute of it! Can’t say I’ll ever live in that situation again, haha.

  • Definitely understand how you feel about the commute- my commute is 2 hours each way! By the time I get home, I don’t want to work out!
But great job finding a gym that’s closer and cheaper!

  • Great goals. I am so impressed that you’re going to the gym four times a week. I really struggle to make it three times a week. I have an hour commute (round trip) and I actually quite enjoy it. Good tunes and an open sunroof is a pretty nice way to end the workday.

    • I’m definitely going to fill my iPhone with good music, to make the drive easier… would love if the sun came out too!

  • Ooo I like the idea of putting money in a jar everytime your work out. Great reward system, I might have to try it! And Mockingjay is by far my favourite book of the trilogy.

    • Is it!? I’ve only had a chance to read the first 20 pages or so… gotta get some homework done this weekend, first!

  • Ahhhh so jealous! Especially when you mentioned laying on your yoga mat in the room with the best view. That sounds like heaven right there. What kind of running shoes are you looking into? I think you should go to a running shoe store to have your foot analyzed..I know it sounds weird but it is super important to get a shoe that benefits your foot and the way you run – heel striker, overpronator, etc. Also they will size you correctly!
