Why $100 Left Me Speechless

Hello, hello friends. I’m sorry for the radio silence. I’ve been travelling since the middle of the month, and finally got to spend a few days at home this week. I tried to sit down and write this post multiple times, but couldn’t find the right words or analogies to express what’s been on my mind… when that happens, I know it’s time to stop trying to be perfect and just get it all out.

Last Friday, I took the ferry over to the mainland so I could spend a few days with friends in Greater Vancouver. Sarah and I went for a hike in Port Moody, Krystal and I went to a PechaKucha event, and a big group of us went to the Florence + the Machine concert. The weekend was filled with good food, great conversations and so much laughter, but I felt distracted the entire time.

A Few Updates

Good morning, friends! (Or afternoon or evening, depending on when you read this.) I have had the most amazing week “off” from the blog, and am so grateful Shannon was able to write a guest post on a moment’s notice so I could take that time for myself. Normally, I can come up with a theme for these updates, based on one life event or situation I’ve found myself in, but so many things are happening right now that I thought I would share a few updates with you instead. :)

A TV Ban Update

On January 1st, I began my first 31-day challenge of the year. The goal: to not watch TV for an entire month. On the first day, I quickly realized that the toughest habit to break would be watching TV while I ate, so I decided I would allow myself to watch one TED Talk during dinner. Five or six days into the challenge, I realized why I’d been able to get through so many seasons of TV on Netflix last year: it wasn’t that I actually wanted to watch it all, I just wanted some noise to fill the silence. So, on top of watching my one TED Talk, I started listening to a lot of podcasts, in an attempt to break the silence.
