December 2011 Budget & Goals

December 2011 Budget

December 1st, 2011. How the heck did that happen!? Where did this year go?

This month, I’m planning on putting 26% of my income on debt, spending 29% on my needs and wants, setting aside 39.6% for my potential security deposit and first month’s rent and putting 5.4% in savings.

It’s going to be a tight month, with the holidays as well as searching (and paying) for a place to move into, but I’m hoping it will only add to the buzz of excitement that December usually offers.

So, what does this month hold for me? Well, it should come as no surprise that my goals are more personal than they are financial…

December 2011 Goals:

  • Find an apartment (to move in January 1, 2012)
  • Finish reading Never Too Late by Gail Vaz-Oxlade
  • Get ready to move!
  • Hit my “I’ve paid off $10,000 of debt!” mark (-$18,115)
  • Increase RRSP contributions from monthly to bi-weekly
  • Meet all my school assignment deadlines
  • Pay for Christmas with cash
  • Start my newest writing gig
  • Start reading The Wealthy Barber Returns by David Chilton
  • Try to take at least a few days off for myself… to breathe… relax… and do whatever I want!

Now, be honest: is it lame or cute that I “decorated” this budget for Christmas? :P

*24 sleeps until Christmas*

Umm, it’s freakin’ awesome that you decorated your blog for Christmas! Also, I never mentioned this before but I love how you breakdown your budget into percentages :)

    • Cait December 1, 2011 at 11:35 am

Bahaha, so happy someone appreciates my craziness ;)

I’m all about percentages – helps me quickly see where the money is going. And, your December goals look great! Like you, I love having a mix of personal & financial goals. I’m a sloth without goals. ;-)

Oh, I hear ya re: sloth without goals. I think I would just forget all the things I want to do, if I didn’t write them down!

I just clicked over from your guest post at GMBMFB, and my first thought was “What a cute blog!” Between the graph and your snowy portrait, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

    Good luck with your goals!

      Thanks, Penny!

Haters gonna hate. I LOVE that you decorated this post in Christmas colours! I can’t wait to decorate my blog and whole apartment for Christmas!

    • Cait December 8, 2011 at 11:37 am

I’m still waiting for your blog to be decorated!

Good Luck with all your goals.

I just came across your blog so I haven’t read any other posts. But I’m curious … $90 for the cell phone bill seems a wee bit on the high side. I notice that you don’t list a hone phone or internet bill so perhaps ur cell phone is your chief communicator. I hope you’ve tried calling them to ask for a cheaper plan. Sometimes a simple thing as making a call and asking works.

Hi there! Love your blog. You’re just so much like me! I also noticed (browsed and saw your post about cutting your phone bill) your high bill and am convinced you can get it down to $50 something. You don’t have to scream at them but simply ask to speak to retentions. Those are the ones who can really cut your bill down.

I also lived in Victoria for a bit and absolutely love it. I can see how eventually it would feel small though so perhaps leaving was for the best even though I miss it a ton!
